So happy to see KITTEN releasing some new tunes! Even happier that they will be playing in Lexington with the Pomegranates at Cosmic Charlies on July 16th.  Been following these kids for a while now, can’t wait to see them live!

You ought to know - LIGHTS

And you probably do know her! She’s been around for a minute (or since 2006) and received the Juno Award for Best New Artist in 2009. The reason I am posting about her is 1. You need to check out her new album Siberia if you haven’t already—heavy electro and dub influences..it’s cray— AND 2. This is the best acoustic video I’ve seen of her yet (and trust me, there are plenty out there). My favorite track off Siberia has to be “Flux and Flow” -check it out!!

She’s like the Biebs in two ways: She’s Canadian and she acquired a fan base through youtube. Just sayin.

Not sure how I feel about Alison & Jamie beating the shit out of each other, but I am sure about my love for this song…and The Kills for that matter.

(ps- give Alison Mosshart a google if you don’t know her..she’s kind of a big deal)

You ought to know - First Aid Kit

Why? because they are badass.

If you know me at all, you know good harmony gets me every time..which is why when I first heard “Ghost Town”, I fell in love immediately. You’ve got to give their entire new album, The Lion’s Roar a listen. Tis’ amazing!

Oh, did I mention they will be supporting Jack White for eight of his European tour dates?? (see.. badass!)

Listen to SANTIGOLD’s new album - Master of My Make-Believe

We’ve all been waiting for this one: Santigold’s Master of My Make-Believe, the follow-up to her splendid self-titled debut. It’s out on April 23 but you can already stream it in its entirety below. Wish all pop music was this forward-thinking, this energetic, this fun and this amazing. (via)

You ought to know - First Is The Kit

The show on Sunday was fantastic.  Plants and Animals were amazing, but it was the supporting artist, This Is The Kit, that really stole the night.  It was about 10:20pm, people were barely even on their first round at the bar..but it didn’t matter.  Once Kate began to sing, everyone listened.  The trio was accompanied by guest guitarist Jacob Tippey (who had previously been a tour guitarist for Arcade Fire) and Mo, Kate and Jesse’s (bassist/backing vocals) five year old daughter who is already more of a rockstar than I will ever be.

.

After the show, I had several people express to me how much they loved their set and wanted to but their CD (rightly so).  It was my pleasure to work with not only extremely talented musicians, but genuinely amazing people.  If you missed the show, check them out!  Here is their song “Two Wooden Spoons”. For more, you can go here!

I missed their golf cart performance at Bonnaroo, but I was lucky enough to catch these guys in Austin and became an instant fan. These Nashville-ians truly know how to turn indie roots music into a dance party.

For more, check out “Sets Me Free”, “Lost Kid” and “Can’t Wake Up” - I think you’ll love them!

THIS.  Is the power of music….Truly amazing.

»» “Better Side” by Lady Danville ««

YES!  Lady Danville wins the award for turning a good message into a good song into a good video with a sense of humor (it’s a new category).  Ever since I saw them open up for Jack’s Mannequin back in September, I knew big things were ahead of them. In case you missed my initial response to their live show and their AWESOME cover of “Kids” by MGMT, do some major scrolling down :)

»» “At Home” by Crystal Fighters ««

If you don’t know this song, you need to.  This was one of my favorite performances at SxSW, and I didn’t even know who they were at the time.  Their live show is amazing - SO full of energy and you could tell they were having fun on stage. It was one of those shows that even if you didn’t know the words, you found yourself dancing and singing anyway. Definitely a band to keep your eye on, and worth listening to.

Lana Del Rey + Notorious B.I.G. - Born Ready To Die (Mixtape)

                                 *HOLY HIPHOP AWESOMENESS…

wetheurban:

Is this real life? Terry Urban delivers one of the most interesting dedication projects honoring the 15 year death anniversary of the late and great Biggie Smalls aka Christopher Wallace. In an interesting and poignant mashup, Urban didn’t just fuse Lana Del Rey with Biggie because she’s hot right now. Check out what he had to say about the project + stream the FULL mixtape after the jump:
